Ecocottage
We have built a modest cottage that is sympathetic to the architectural appearance of the village and built with ecologically advanced technology as a fundamental part of an autonomous smallholding.
The cottage and smallholding are part of one cyclic 'eco-system'. Rainwater is harvested, 'greywater' recycled, compost toilets utilised and 'black/greywater' treated via reed beds, a flow form pond and a willow trench. Wood from the woodland heats the house and the orientation of the cottage captures solar energy via the solar panel and windows. Using 'green' criteria for selecting all materials and products in construction we have created a cottage that we hope offers a new vision of the country cottage.
